Use this podcast to explain histamine intolerance to friends and family
Zoe Science and Nutrition dedicated an episode to histamine intolerance
It can be hard to get people to pay attention for long enough for them to understand what histamine intolerance is, how it works, and what causes it. Maybe you are a little confused yourself. I was just going through my last week’s downloaded podcast episodes as I’ve been a little out of the loop and came upon this one by Zoe Science and Nutrition, a few days late.
“…if you have two or more symptoms of histamine intolerance that improve or resolve on a low histamine diet, that's how we make this diagnosis.”
Disclaimer, Zoe sells some health kit testing program whosieswhatsis that I don’t know what it is and do not endorse, but I do enjoy listening to their podcast about nutrition and health from time to time and was happy to hear what they had to say about HI.
They don’t mention alot of things that you may know about for yourself if you are in the trenches. They do mention DAO (an enzyme which degrades histamine) but do not talk about any of the other things people may take to manage their HI, which I mention here in this post about antihistamines and here in this other post about non pharmaceutical remedies. They also don’t talk about the filling of the bucket (cumulative effect of eating high histamine foods) or how some foods and drinks may liberate histamines. Still, it may be helpful for you to learn more to be better able to explain things to other people or as a place to send people who make the hilariously misinformed pronouncement that this is probably all in your head. Spoiler: it is not in your head.
It is also not in the head of the 1-3% of people who may have it, which is higher than the percentage of people with celiac but a) there is crossover and b) this is not the food intolerance olympics, so let’s not compete.

Here it is, along with the transcript. The audio plays (with video) on Youtube, or find this episode called “"The surprising truth about histamine intolerance” on your favorite podcast app.
If I come across other HI newsy bits that I can get behind, I’ll drop you another newsletter, particularly if you let me know that this was helpful by subscribing

Hope you are all doing well in your various journeys, and I can report that no Eileens were injured in the eating of that bowl. It also had carrots and sweet potatoes in it and I may have flirted with some high histamine sauces. It was well worth it.
Thanks!
